Hair.
Straight across the forehead type bangs.
(crew cut short in the back)
Throwback to the 1950's.
Asymmetrical Shag.
Teased and flat topped.
Wavy side bangs.
( brought back by the reappearance of the nautical trend.)
Greased and slicked.
Asymmetrical long hair.
Thick wideswept long bangs.
(crew cut short in the back and on the sides.)
( an adorable naughty English boy look that I've been dying over)
This seasons newest and hottest looks in men's hair. Courtesy of WGSN.
This post is a bit of a continuation of the previous one.
A lot of guys really have no idea to do with that hairy bit that grows out of their head, and I must say ( with much wisdomosity) that it is totally understandable since absolutely no one tells them or shows them.
Unlike us lovely girls, who can turn on the T.V, open a magazine or generally whirl around in a circle to see what is expected of us visually and fashionably when it comes to our hair. Guys are kind of left in the dark.
This usually results in telling the barber " Trim the back, a little off the sides and a bit shorter on top." giving them that horribly generic look ( which is not the barber's fault because the request is so damn vague).
I don't think that some guys really understand how important having a good hairstyle is.
(Yes, I said it. Hair STYLE. Like the kind you go to a hairdresser to give.)
Us chicks can think eons about you guys at first sight based only on your hair. At times, a good haircut can even save you from having a terrible fashion sense. It also places you more firmly into whatever subculture you're choosing to identify with ( punk, beatnik, indie, raver, goth, rockabilly, etc).
It can be the difference between appearing to be a "hot guy" or a "cute guy". Which for some reason seems to be important to most guys I've met.
In conclusion: Find a hairstyle. Pay attention to hair trends every so often. Don't be afraid of picking up a men's fashion magazine and flipping through it to check what's going on in the world on Men's Aesthetics.
It could mean the difference between getting a cool girl to like you or not.
Because, that thing people say about being attracted to someone on the inside is totally flippin bull shit.
First its visual then its emotional.
And if you don't get the first part its wildly less likely to get the second.

Kayla

A Suitable Occasion
So.
Today I went shopping with a couple of chaps.
The goal of said shopping trip was to acquire a suit for a particular occasion (a fashion show), and return with something appropriate, but versatile for later use.
Whilst leaning against a display table and watching a sales associate attempt to ensnare my friend in some sort of dated color/fabric suit combination, it suddenly dawned on me how little information men receive from the outside world on how to wear a suit not only with style and grace, but with a hint of personal quirkiness.
My friend who needed the suit is a generally fashion sensitive sort of bloke, who has managed not to succumb to the psychological plague that currently affects many American men. Said concept is expressed through the following equation:
Fashion Ignorance = masculinity so therefore Fashion Appreciation = femininity. Thus fashion avoidance is achieved to preserve their facsimile of masculinity.
Despite his casual style, he still seemed to have difficulty with choosing a suit style. I'm sensing that this is the same for many men. So to combat this, I'm going to start off with introducing some trends that are hot off the runway:
Complete Suits
A hybrid between nautical pieces and modern Italian tailoring
Pairing greys with earthy textured pastels.
Monochromatic shades: playing with different shades of the same color
Sleek shiny fitted fabrics.
Sneakers with suits.
Classic Double breasted business suits (last popular in the mid 90's on Wall street)
Large pockets and metal buttons.
Long Torso.

Sweatpants inspired.
Geometric inspired pants in thick sturdy fabrics.

Fresh spring take on the casual suit/jeans combination.
Nautical foppishness.
A throwback to the eighties ( made digestible by the the neutrality of black)

Just to show that the impossible may be done, here are some real life examples of young men who have found their niche and personalized their suit.

Womenswear as Menswear.
I'll have to call it "neo-beatnik "
All of these suits are appropriate for any occasion where a suit is required. Yet they still manage to suit the person's individual style
This generation has broken the mold quite effectively in the Dress Clothing department.
In the end my friend left the store with something appropriate for the occasion, which was great because I love watching men shop and what he purchased fit him almost like it was tailored for him.
Sorry for the slight change in format, but I felt as though the situation should be described before all the lovely pictures( photo credit to WGSN.com).
love,
Kayla
P.S. While riding over to the store today we listened to some coolish music that reminded me of my favorite ambient band: Tycho.
Check it out, you might be utterly smitten.
