Debbie Harry...

Get a playlist! Standalone player Get Ringtones

...Is a woman who I think is super cool.

She just oozes beachy classy 80's charm with the recklessness of punk. Like joan jet and bridgette bardot fucked and she was their love child of win and awesome.

Of course, her look is hard to pin point, when copy-cat dressing, but it is definately attainable for chick and lads who know what they're doing.

The look is a combination of grunge with a bunch of nautical 80's staples. Debbie Harry mostly looks like she stayed up all night hard core partying, and instead of changing her clothes she just reapplys her make up and waltzes out the door.

She favors kitchy T-shirts and band shirts, she also wears this iconic Popeye T-shirt and Captian's hat. She wore stripes, animal prints, hot pants and leggings, but the art of it is how she paired them together. She never wore more than three key item, and thus kept the eye away from her body and focused more on her face.

Which brings me to her face.
I found this fabulous make-up video that captures the style almost perfectly:

Her hair is interesting. Its pretty much a lob...a long-bob. The front of the hair parted on the side is actually longer than the whole of her hair. It is teased outward and upwards, then most likely scrunched with hairspray or braided and let out. Its a super cute look and is not very common so it will be associated with her immediately.

Androgyny.

I want to be a fashion monster.

Constantly consuming and spewing hedonistic materialism every where, like a disease. I'll wear spike heels and latex and gem sweaters and leather

Try to stop me.

Anyway, a couple of days ago I discovered THE L WORD. yeah, yeah I know I'm like 5 years late on this, but hey. More importantly it was the first time I saw "Shane".

Back in my drag days, I'd heard a couple of girls describe me as Shane-ish, but I never really understood what they were talking about until now, and by george it is one hell of a compliment.

Shane is this slinky, sexy, roll-out-of-bed-looking-like-a-young-Mick-Jagger type of dyke lesbian. Almost like the chick version of Tony Stonem from Skins.

They are rare and few inbetween, those elusive hot dykes, and when you see them... COR! Its a smasher.

I don't even think I qualify.

I mean, I totally used to go for a skinny, broad shouldered look, but I'm only 5'4" with a pair of Double D's, and it just ruins the feel.

I can sort of see..... naw.

I dont know, man, but she is HOT.
Which brings me to the topic of androgyny.
Conclusion: Its lovely.

Fairy Tale Dressing

Perhaps this is in honor of the upcoming Tim Burton film, perhaps this is just a turn of fashion, but I absolutely adore this new trend of fairty tale clothes.
I think the first time I saw this look, I was watching strawberry koi's hair styling videos. She is this adorable video blogger who specializes in vintage dressing. If you'd like to check her out, her blog is: http://www.strawberrykoi.com/

She is adorable and pretty and everything I wish I could be.

Anyway, the most prominant picks right now are for the tales of Hansel and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, Peter and the Wolf.

It is a very "Secret Garden" look, with modest hems and high necklines. It's not so cute as to be precious, but enough that when seen it envokes a feeling of pink tinted nostaligia.

A couple of key items I've found for you lovely kids:

Little Red Ridinghood coat:

Bloomers (for if your little dresses get blown up by the wind!):

T-strap heels and mary janes are always lovely.

How To Get The Look:

Tips.
Hair: keep it simple.
I recommend a headband that goes over the head, thin and with a small bow.
Bows are always good for the look. Whether big and floppy or tiny and well placed, you cant go wrong with bows. Braids are a classy way to pull the look together. Imagine the time in which the story is set and how a child would have worn their hair.

Accessories: keep them at a minimum.

Lockets instead of necklaces, tights instead of leggings, knit mittens instead of gloves. Tiny simple purses. If it is winter, you can really bring the house down by wearing a fur muff.

Vintage shopping:

When searching for items to fit this trend, look for natural fabrics, nothing metalic, or overtly manmade. Lace is good, peter pan collars are good, 60's style circle dresses are good. Capelets are good. thrift stores often have a nice collection of sweaters. Pearl buttons are just darling enough to put the finishing touch on an outfit.

Make-up:

This can go one of three ways:

1. Plain natural make up ( in which the goal is to make the face look as flawlessly natural as possible)
2. Doll like make-up ( to exagerate the look)
3. Preternatural look. ( rosy rosy cheeks and lips, lots of masceara. If you're looking for a visual think "Susan"from the lion the witch and the wardrobe movies)

Where to shop if you dont want to thrift store dive:
Urban outfitters has alot of dresses for this look.
Forever 21 sometimes has dresses and accessories
Target in their women'sbusiness wear section has many cute dresses for this look.
Charlotte Russe

enjoy!

Rocking horse.I'll ride it.

Yes Yes Yes!
Rocking horse shoes.
They are the mixture of all the most awesome shoe styles: ballet shoes, platforms, and ankle strap heels.
If you've been dying for a platform shoe without all the clunky weight, and these are the answer to your prayers.
They also come in a boot version, a higher platform and an almost sneaker like style that look kind of like pumas with a platform. <- those aren't my favorite but the other two look alright.
Since they were made by Viv. Westwood, they are sturdy and durable, but a tad expensive. You can get them on ebay for around $50 (with shipping)
Of course if you want to get the real deal, you ccan order then straight from Westwood and pay around $500-700.

But as I'm not rich, there's no reason I should assume you are, and thus my blog will only list the cheapest places that you can purchase any thing I feature.

This animal's skin is so warm.

I live in Chicago. Here, it is freaking cold.

When I say cold, I don’t mean oh, casual Midwestern weather 15 degrees “oh its so nippy out” cold, I mean ass biting, face scathing, hell winds of negative 10 degrees cold.

When I was a child, my mother would buy me these puffer coats. You can get them at old navy, they come in various bright colors and are stuffed to the gills with goose down, ect. And I would always feel so intense and large and… unfashionable, while wearing them. But as I was maybe 10-ish, I couldn’t really put a name to the itchy uncomfortable feeling I would get whenever people would look at me.

I now know this feeling to be shameful inadequacy based on the fact that I was wearing what amounted to a windbreaker filled with feathers instead of a $900 mink coat.
Yes.
Even as a child I desired extravagance.

By the way, don’t bring up kids like me. They tend to be expensive and strange acting.
:I

Despite PETA and their vigilance, fur coats are coming back on the scene, something that I am crazy excited about.

I keep having this dream that I have a 60’s style short fur coat and some chunky black platform heels and spotted sheer tights. The dream consists of nothing but me wearing the aforementioned clothes and walking the streets downtown as people “Ooh and Ahh” at the wonder that is my outfit.
Conclusion: WEAR FUR!
Where to get it:
Ebay.
Of course. The prices range between $50-300, but if you wait until furs are out of season, most of them go down to the $20-60 range.
